Smart Tap technology enables metered, cashless water access at community water points — solving the challenge of revenue collection, fair distribution, and sustainable water point management across rural Zimbabwe and Sub-Saharan Africa.
What is Smart Tap?
Smart Tap is a prepaid, metered water dispensing system installed at solar-powered borehole water points. Users purchase water credits via mobile money (EcoCash, OneMoney) or a prepaid card, and use them to unlock the tap and dispense exact quantities of water.
How It Works
User buys water units via EcoCash, OneMoney, or physical prepaid card sold at local agent.
User taps NFC card or enters PIN on the keypad to unlock the Smart Tap dispenser.
Exact volume is dispensed and deducted from credit balance. Tap auto-closes when credit is exhausted.
Revenue automatically collected and allocated for pump maintenance, solar system upkeep, and village water committee management.
